Keep your family safe with a NOAA radio

QUESTION

With all of the severe weather we've seen this spring, many newscasts are saying I should buy a NOAA weather radio for my home. Have you ever tried these out? Do you have any recommendations on which ones to purchase?
-Dave, from Toledo, OH, listens to my weekly radio show on WSPD 1370 AM.

ANSWER

Great question, Dave. Deadly tornadoes have devastated the Plains states this month, and the season isn't over. I know you want to keep yourself and your loved ones safe.

Thankfully, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration operates the National Weather Service. This service broadcasts severe weather alerts 24/7 in every state using shortwave signals.

To listen to these signals, you'll want a NOAA-compatible shortwave radio receiver. These are set up to receive broadcasts from the specific frequencies that the National Weather Service uses.
