March 8, 2012Should you buy the new iPad?QUESTIONI saw the iPad announcement on your site. I'm thinking about buying the latest model, but I'm not so sure. The iPad 2 might be enough for my needs and it's less expensive. What do you think? ANSWERYes, Apple finally announced the long-awaited third-generation iPad. You can read the full details of "the new iPad" on my site. About that name - it really is "the new iPad," not "iPad 3" or "iPad HD," as late rumors said. After the backlash over Apple releasing the iPhone 4S instead of the iPhone 5, it seems Apple might be doing away with version numbers entirely. We'll see whether this trend continues with the launch of the next iPhone - you know, the real iPhone 5! Aside from the vague name, the important points are that the new iPad has gorgeous, high-resolution Retina display, a faster processor with built-in quad-core graphics, blazing fast 4G cellular Internet and a higher-resolution rear camera. Basically, it fixes virtually all of my frustrations with the iPad 2. It even has the same storage amounts and price structure that the iPad 2 did. That makes it quite a steal - or does it? In addition to the new iPad, Apple is still making the iPad 2. It's selling only the 16 gigabyte model, but now for $100 less than before. So, the Wi-Fi model is $399 and the Wi-Fi + 3G is $529. Depending on your needs, the iPad 2 might be a better option. It's still on par with or better than any non-Apple tablet on the market. So, which one do you choose?
