If you're willing to make the transition, Microsoft will give you a 6-month free trial. After that, for the Small Business service, the cost is $6 per month. That includes Web hosting, cloud-based email, calendars, video conferencing, file-sharing and other useful tools. That really isn't a bad deal. Of course, the transition process isn't exactly painless. Microsoft estimates it takes 2 to 6 hours for each Office Live user to move data. You can check out Microsoft's self-transition guide here. If you'd rather not use Office 365, there are a number of affordable hosting services, such as Web Hosting Hub. Just note that most hosting services are Web hosts only and won't offer the extras like calendars and video conferencing. Switching to a third party, you'll still have to recreate your website from scratch or using copy-and-paste. The good news is there are several free Web editors available to help. Websites are essential for any small business. Here are some helpful tips for building yours.
You'll get the royal treatment with an ocean-view cabin, and your meals and entertainment aboard the ship and even an airfare allowance are included in the prize. You are responsible for ground transportation to the port, taxes and tips. As for a passport, you need one for almost all cruises now, but I wouldn't travel abroad without one anyhow! Learn how to take your own passport photos at home to speed up the process. But, as they say, you can't win if you don't enter. And you can enter every day! Just go to my website and look for the Relax and Restore Contest button and click on Enter To Win a Carnival Cruise. Are Macs a good buy?Dick of Huntsville, AL, listens to my national radio show on WVNN 770 AM/92.5 FM. He has a tradition of giving a laptop to his grandkids when they graduate from high school. His granddaughter requested an Apple laptop this year and he wonders whether this is really the best choice for her. Your tradition of giving laptops to the grandkids is very thoughtful, Dick. It can really help a college-bound student get off to a smooth start. I think a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air is an excellent choice for your granddaughter. Apple laptops are durable and easy to use, so she can spend more time studying and less time figuring out how to run programs. Don't worry that her Mac will be incompatible with Windows networks and Windows PCs at school. Joining the school's Wi-Fi network takes just a few clicks. And Microsoft Office for Mac will allow her to create and share Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations. The 11-inch MacBook Air for $1,000 will be fine for doing research on the Web, sending email and managing homework assignments. If your granddaughter does art projects, graphic design, photography or video editing, a 13-inch MacBook Pro starting at $1,200 would be a better choice. I go into much more detail about the pros and cons of Airs and Pros in this tip. My comprehensive Mac Buying Guide will give you the lowdown on every laptop and desktop Apple makes. Check with Apple to see whether you and your daughter's school qualify for an education discount on a new Mac. You may be able to save $50-$200. A new Mac works well right out of the box. That doesn't mean you can't make it do more. These ideas will also help you get the most out of a new Mac.

He notices that when he watches videos on certain sites, such as news sites, Adobe's Flash Player asks him whether it's OK to store information on his computer. He wants to know what this is all about and whether it's really necessary. Flash is an important part of the Internet and appears on many sites. Some sites use Flash as a basic video player while other sites take full advantage of its capabilities. One of the things Flash can do is store information on your computer. If you play an online Flash game, for example, Flash can store your current level and high score. Next time you start the game, you can pick up where you left off. In the case of news sites, they probably want to store video player preferences or what videos you watched. It might be for your convenience or so the site can keep tabs on the videos that are most popular. However, it might be for Flash-based tracking cookies. The site's privacy policy should tell you the reason. That can help you decide whether or not to allow local storage. If you don't want to deal with all this, you can modify Flash's local storage settings to always deny storage requests. If you've never been asked to store information, you should also check your settings. Your Flash Player might be set to accept everything. First, make sure you have the most recent version of Adobe Flash installed. You can download it here from my site. Then open a Flash video, right-click on the video and choose Global Settings. On the Storage tab, you can choose Block all sites from storing information. Just be aware this could cause some sites to not work properly. I recommend setting it to Ask me before allowing sites to save information. Then you can decide on a case-by-case basis. Below these options, you can click the Local Storage Settings button to see set what sites are already storing data on your computer. You can choose to remove the data or block a specific site from storing information in the future. If you just want to wipe out all the information, click the Delete All button. Note that this could cause you to lose data on some Flash-based sites. The Internet can be a scary place, but browsing safely can be really easy with a few steps.

Killer Tip: Choose the right Ethernet cableHeavy on the technical sideQuestion:I'm expanding my wired network to every room in my house, including the garage. However, I'm not sure what cable type to use. What is the difference between Cat 5e and Cat 6? I'm not a fan of wireless networks because they lose signal strength. Thanks for your time. I love your show. Answer:Expanding a wired network to every room of a house is often a major undertaking. Rewiring an entire house is no small feat, even with a smaller abode. Of course, you could just run the cables outside the walls, which is much easier. But that has its own set of problems. It doesn't look very good to start with, and it can limit how far the network can extend. There's a reason many people prefer the ease of a wireless network, Rafael. Still, I see your point about signal strength. To cover a larger house, you often have to take special measures. If you do stick with a wired network, you have to decide what cable to use. Ethernet cable comes in a number of different categories that indicate the network speed and frequency the cable can support. The category also indicates the cable's ability to avoid outside interference that can lead to network glitches. Joke:You can always count on me to make you smileDuring John's physical, the doctor asked him about his daily activity level. John replied, "Well, yesterday morning, I waded along the edge of a lake, escaped from wild dogs in the heavy brush, marched up and down several rocky hills, stood in a patch of poison ivy, crawled out of quicksand, and jumped away from an aggressive rattlesnake." "No," John replied, "I'm just a lousy golfer."
